i'm samantha skvaril

A Chicago-based therapist specializing in ADHD, trauma, and shame.

Like many of my clients, I was late diagnosed, which means I understand how easy it is to carry years of overwhelm, self-doubt, and exhaustion before finding support.

My work focuses on helping adults with ADHD untangle those old patterns and build a life that actually feels sustainable.

You were the kid who couldn’t sit still, so the teacher called you disruptive.
Eventually, you stopped raising your hand. You stopped trying.
Now you overthink every email before you send it—terrified of being “too much.”

You were the quiet one—dreamy, spacey, always “off in your own world.”
No one saw how hard you were trying to keep up.
Now you push yourself to exhaustion to prove you’re not lazy.

You were praised for being mature for your age.
You took care of everyone else, because no one seemed to notice you needed care too.
Now you don’t know how to ask for help without feeling like a burden.

You were told to stop crying, to stop overreacting, to stop making things harder than they had to be.
So you learned to laugh things off.
Now you can’t tell if you’re actually okay or just really good at pretending.

Did any of that sound familiar?

Yeah, I thought so—because I’ve been there too. I get the constant push-pull of wanting to do it all and feeling completely stuck. Here, we’ll work together to start unlearning the shame, unveiling the masks, and help your nervous system finally breathe.

Living with ADHD can feel like carrying an invisible weight — exhausting, unseen, and often misunderstood by others.

On the outside, you might look like you’re keeping it together. Inside, it’s a constant push-pull between overwhelm, shame, and the pressure to “do more.”

That invisible weight doesn’t just affect your focus — it shapes how you see yourself, how you move through relationships, and how much energy you have left for the things that matter most.

In my work with clients, I make space for that invisible weight to be named, understood, and carried differently. Together, we’ll begin to untangle shame from identity and create support that actually fits your life.

MEET YOUR THERAPIST:

Hi, I'm Samantha!

If you’re here, you probably know what it’s like to mask, to feel constantly behind, or to push yourself through sheer exhaustion. ADHD isn’t just about focus — it touches your relationships, your sense of self, and how you move through the world.

I specialize in ADHD therapy for women and non-binary folks in Chicago and throughout Illinois. My work is about helping you unmask, unlearn the shame you’ve been carrying, and create strategies that feel realistic and supportive — not punishing.

In our sessions, you don’t have to explain the basics of ADHD before we can get started. We begin with what’s real for you, and together, we build something that finally fits your life.

Questions about working with me

  • My practice specializes in supporting women and non-binary adults with ADHD. While my approach is informed by the unique challenges women often face with late-diagnosed ADHD, I welcome all clients who feel connected to my work.

  • Yes! I provide online therapy for clients across Illinois. I am not currently seeing clients in person.

  • ADHD is my specialty and passion, but it doesn’t exist in isolation. Many of my clients also bring experiences of trauma, anxiety, shame, relationship struggles, or the stress of navigating motherhood. My approach is holistic — we’ll look at ADHD in the context of your whole life, not just as a checklist of symptoms.

  • Many general therapists focus only on tools and strategies. My approach starts with unmasking and shame work, so we can create tools that actually fit your nervous system and your life.

  • Yes, I currently accept Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO, United Healthcare PPO, and private pay. If you’re using out-of-network benefits, I can also provide a superbill upon request for potential reimbursement.

  • I work primarily with adults with ADHD, especially women navigating late diagnosis, motherhood, and relationships.

  • That’s okay! Many of my clients come to me while still exploring whether ADHD fits their story. Therapy can help you sort through the questions, shame, and patterns you’ve noticed.
